Potential Stroke Victims Can t Ignore Warnings

While many of the results of a stroke are different for various people, many stroke victims suffer some very common affects. Not all of them had experienced a transient ischemic attack, or minor stroke as a warning signal that a stoke was eminent, but some of the effects are the same. The location at which the blood flow was blocked will determine the effects of the event.

Many times stroke victims end up in the wrong hospital, that is one with no one on staff that understands the immediate needs of a person having a stroke to be able to reduce the damage done to the brain. In about 75 percent of strokes, the cause is due to a blocked artery and getting the blood flowing quickly by using blood thinners such as heparin can reduce the damage done to the brain. Continued use of drugs like warfarin can provide additional help by maintaining a thinness of the blood.

Most stroke victims seems to lack control of one side of their body, typically the opposite side of the brain in which the damage has occurred. For example, a person suffering a stroke on the right side of their brain will usually lose some or all ability to move the left side of their body.

Not All Cures Have Patient s Interest In Mind

Another common issue with stroke victims is the number of companies preying on them and their families. While many advances have been made to help people recover from a stroke, there is no definitive sure that will suddenly make their arms and legs begin working again. They may continue to experience speech problems even while taking the latest miracle cure.

The best stroke victims can hope for is to be guided by their attending physician into the correct therapy that will help them slowly regain their pre-stroke abilities. There are many companies willing to take advantage of the frustration often felt by stroke victims in promising them relief and recuperation while delivering only receipts for the money.

About 75 percent of stroke victims end up disabled and unable to work and not being able to perform many functions as they could in the past, depression is another common result of a stroke. Although anti-depressant drugs can offer considerable relief, they must be prescribed by the doctor. Being able to return to a function close to normal is the goal of all stroke victims and it takes will-power and dedication to any recommended therapy for them to realize that dream.
