Soft Drinks — Good for Your Health?

The popular conception is that “soda pop” is, by definition, unhealthy. But might this be a myth?

In the United States, we have many flavored carbonated drinks which we call soda pop. Why does soda pop “fizz?” Carbonation.

The quality and different tastes of various carbonated drinks, including soft drinks, is caused by the amount of dissolved CO2 which causes carbonic acid in the drink.  Click here for more carbonated water information.

Carbonation is the process that gives many soft drinks their distinctive taste. Diluted carbonic acid is the cause of the fizzy taste, not, as many believe, the bubbles.

Carbonated water, also known as sparkling water, is plain water into which CO2 gas has been dissolved, and is the predominant ingredient of most “soft drinks”.

In the past, such drinks were produced at home by putting water in a seltzer bottle, and then adding CO2. Club soda, often identical to plain carbonated water, may sometimes contain a small amount of salt or trace minerals. These trace ingredients may cause a salty taste in home-made soda pop. If you add some drops of concentrated flavors, what results? Good old soda pop.

With enough minerals, the drink is called sparkling water. A big variety of calorie-free flavors to flavor sparkling water with great tastes is sold at allfreightfree.com. Instead of drinking too many soda pops, this might offer a nice alternative for your family.

Carbonated drinks made into soda pop can be a calorie-free way to make sure your family drinks plenty of water; we all know that the better the drinks taste, the more your kids drink, and the more they drink, the healthier for your family.

Members of your family who work out or play sports will find this flavored drink helps make sure they stay properly hydrated while exercising. This has been an extremely hot summer; two-a-day football practices are already underway for college and high school players. Perhaps, football mom, you could provide the team different flavored carbonated drinks to make sure everyone drinks the amounts that they need and stays well hydrated. The kids will love you and, who knows? maybe the coach will, too. This could be a good project for one of the booster clubs to take on.

The extreme summer heat has made drinking water extremely important – in fact, it has made it a dangerous summer even for Texas which is used to hot summers. Most people, however, are not accustomed to day after humid day of 100-degrees-plus temperatures; infants and the elderly are especially vulnerable.

It is plain that not all soft drinks are the same. So, flavored carbonated drinks could be a good option for you and your kids, and maybe even for your elderly neighbor. We are, after all, our brother’s keeper.
