Information on the Diabetes Association
Diabetes is a chronic and incurable disease that affects a large majority of the population. It occurs when the body does not produce enough or any insulin, which results in leading to an excess of sugar in the blood. Insulin then needs to be properly injected into the body in order to ensure a proper regulation of sugar, as cells require this sugar in order to be able to function properly.
There are actually two different associations for Diabetes, which are the Canadian Diabetes Association and the American Diabetes Association. The Canadian Diabetes Association was founded over half a century ago, and it is a charitable, non-profit organization that has now grown to include more than 150 communities worldwide and one which promotes the health of people, especially those suffering from diabetes, through research, education and advocacy.
They offer a number of different programs and services, one of the most major being the information sessions that they have available, which education people who have diabetes as well as people who know others with the ailment, and this is important because really the best way for anyone to be able to manage diabetes as effectively and properly as possibly is for them to be as familiar with it as they can.
There are a wide range of activities that are included here, such as sessions, forums, breakfast meetings, evening and weekend seminars, weekend retreats, and even puppet programs for schools so that younger children can become informed on this issue as well.
The American Diabetes Association is similar to the Canadian Diabetes Association in certain ways, but different in others. For one, rather obviously, it services specifically to Americans, and as well it was founded about a decade before the Canadian version. Their primary mission however is almost identical, being to prevent and cure diabetes and promote education on the issue.
In order to go about fulfilling this mission, the association funds research various research projects, publishes scientific findings, and provides information and other services to people living with diabetes, their family and friends, as well as health professionals and the general public.
The Advantages
Both of these associations offer a number of different advantages, namely the fact that combined they are dramatically increasing the knowledge surrounding the issue of diabetes, and they are helping people in general to become more informed and aware on the matter, understand what it is all about, and encourage them to help in the finding of a cure.
