Tips for a Great Holiday Abroad
These days a lot of people travel abroad for a holiday. It is extremely rewarding and a lot of fun. Traveling overseas also needs more preparation and research. Here are some easy suggestions that can help you have a wonderful time.
1. Travel advisories are sometime issued by the State Department if there is a risk involved in traveling to a certain part of the world. Outbreak of infectious disease or political instability can result in travel restriction. Check for recent updates to make sure your destination is safe.
2. Purchase health insurance to cover you in the country you plan to visit. It is more than likely that your current health plan (in your native country) will not cover you when you travel. Determine if you need only medical insurance or if you need trip cancellation benefits, evacuation benefits along with medical insurance.
3. Trip cancellation plans reimburse your trip costs if you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Some plans also provide medical insurance benefits. The plans usually have restrictions on coverage for pre existing condition and may require you to buy the plan within a specified number of days of making a deposit on the trip.
4. Pack all the medications you take on a regular basis. It is also good to carry a medical history report that lists your medical treatments, blood group, along with information of your physician. Make sure you include information of an emergency contact.
5. Base your itinerary on the advice of reputed travel guides and after consulting maps. Be realistic on how much you can cover during the trip. Sometimes people do not account for travel time and end up feeling rushed during the trip.
6. Try not to include too many activities in one day. Try to relax on the day you reach your destination. If you travel across several time zones be prepared for jetlag.
7. Carry enough local currency and only the credit cards that you plan on using. Make sure you notify your credit card company that you are traveling abroad. Some credit card companies will reject transactions made overseas unless you notify them of your plans. Use your credit card in reputable places; there have been several instances of credit card fraud involving tourists. Carry their phone number in case you have to report your credit card lost or stolen.
8. Practice some useful sentences in the local language. Be mindful of the customs and traditional followed by the locals and do not insult them by mistake. Carry a translation guide to assist you.
9. Your passport is a very valuable document, keep it safe. You can consult your consulate in an emergency, carry their contact numbers. You can use the insurance provider's emergency assist numbers if you need assistance. They can also direct you to local physicians or hospitals. Make sure you call them to verify benefits before you use the services.
10. Do not drink tap water unless you know it is safe. Uncooked foods can harbor bacteria so try to avoid them. While eating outside use good judgment to stay healthy.
Get ready to enjoy your holiday abroad!
