Tips On Anti-Aging Skin Care Products

by James Redder

The use of anti-aging skin care products has grown enormously over the last two decades; reducing the visible signs of ageing is the goal for many people as they grow older, and why shouldn't it be? This is done using skin care products that encourage the growth of the protein collagen which happens to be the main source of the protein used in the connective tissue of skin; with around a quarter of our skin protein being collagen, the importance of this substance has not gone unnoticed. Collagen is related to other natural substances which help to slow down the ageing process; this group is called antioxidants and apart from their cell repairing ability, they may be able to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.

Although the benefits of vitamin C (an anti-oxidant) are well documented, it is still debated as to what our daily amount should be. Skin care treatments that are based on vitamin C, pose the problem of becoming oxidized themselves as they come into contact with air during their usage.

Other skin care treatments which mimic the effects of vitamin C are being tried all the time. They seek to be more stable in the atmosphere and also cheaper to produce. While vitamin E and lipoic acid are not as effective as vitamin C they are anti-oxidants as well.

The body uses vitamin E as an antioxidant and is also used to increase the natural defense we have against disease, including many types of cancer, it is a fat soluble vitamin in people's blood. Lipoic acid is also an energy making component of the body, found in every cell, it can also help reduce the aging process which affects the skin.

Another group of products used to reduce the visible signs of aging are phytochemicals which are compounds extracted from various plants and used in many anti-aging skin care products. A further benefit of these phytochemicals is their ability to prevent the onset of breast cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer all of which are on the increase globally.

It has also been discovered that there are anti-aging benefits to vitamins B5, B6 and B12. Although the area of anti-aging skin care products is huge, more is being learned about the whole aging process and about natural products that can reduce the effects it has on our bodies as well as our skin.

In time new discoveries will be made advancing our understanding of the aging process and products that can reduce or reverse the effects more successfully. The amount of research going on in this field will undoubtedly bring results in time, hopefully bringing down the cost of these anti-aging skin care products in addition to increasing their reliability.

However, man-made skin care regimes should be used only as a supplement; they cannot replace natural skin care remedies. Drinking plenty of water, getting a good night's sleep, exercising regularly, maintaining healthy eating habits and keeping stress at bay are an essential means of delaying the aging process.

Natural Relief for Back Pain with Chiropractic

by Michelle Caruso

Once an injury to the spine has occurred, regular, often persistent back pain can follow; proprietary medication is often the first route to back pain relief; Pain relief is possible with the medications available but that is all they do and the reason for the pain continues. While there are a host of prescription medications that help with pain relief, many are doing nothing more than masking the symptoms instead of tackling the underlying cause of the pain. Medication should be used sparingly and under the strict supervision of a medical professional.

Back pain is often caused by muscle strain and repeated strenuous exercises; it is not uncommon for a person to cause permanent damage from just lifting something incorrectly. Of course the most common way to injure your spine is by lifting heavy weights or lifting them incorrectly. Many people are now turning to other methods of gaining back pain relief which do not include the use of drugs.

Tense muscles in the back can be eased just by gentle stretching; this provides relief and is simple to carry out. Another type of treatment called reflexology uses a massage technique applied to the feet; some people are now discovering its benefits as a back pain remedy. Another benefit to reflexology is how it can improve the circulation which helps to ease tense muscles.

Although acupuncture is an age old Chinese medical practice that has been used for thousands of years, it is only recently that the Western world has accepted it as an alternative form of back pain relief. The Chinese believe we all have this special energy force flowing through us and when we become sick it doesn't flow correctly. By using thin needles placed into the body at specific points, they can free this trapped (unhealthy) energy. Acupuncture can be used to treat almost all kinds of ailments including pain relief around the spine and studies made in acupuncture have provided results which are quite astounding.

Chiropractic care is a well known now and a successful natural way to help back pain. Chiropractors will treat spinal subluxations. When someone has subluxations the symptoms can be localized in some part of the back and even radiate down to the thighs, buttocks and legs. Doctors of chiropractic draw on a huge wealth of knowledge. They have a lot of experience with treating and helping in preventing back pains and back injuries.

Surprising GERD Diet that Can Stop Your Heartburn

by Jeff Martin

For those acid reflux patients with less pronounced problems, recent studies point out that they can make major positive changes to their condition by relatively easy diet changes. But is there really a GERD food plan that makes it possible for acid reflux victims to get rid of those terrible symptoms? Altering diet plans to cure acid reflux is given strong approval by classical and alternative medical sources.

The connection between eating and GERD treatment can be shown from the gastric/digestive pathophysiology of this medical ailment. In general, GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) also called acid reflux, is a functional problem of the digestive system. Gastro esophageal reflux disease happens when the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) - a muscle acting as a valve to shut off the esophagus from the stomach - does not close correctly and acid content flows back from the stomach, or "refluxes", into the esophagus.

Acid reflux symptoms vary from one person to another. Heartburn is what afflicts most patients - the burning feeling in the chest and/or throat that happens when refluxed stomach acid meets the esophageal lining. Patients report other symptoms as well, including swallowing problems, chest pain, hoarseness, an impression of something stuck at the back of the throat and dry coughing. Without treatment, acid reflux can lead to grave medical complications, such as ulcers, Barrett's esophagus and even cancer. For these reasons, gastro esophageal reflux disease must be treated in a comprehensive and timely way.

Reducing weight and changing diet are both strongly advised for GERD patients as the initial step for dealing with this problem (and as part of a full holistic agenda).

Foods that contain certain bio-chemicals or that encourage their presence in the human body (high fat foods, mint, chocolate) should be dropped from a diet for acid reflux. These substances include a range of naturally occurring items which interfere with the correct working of the LES, such as dopamine, prostaglandins and acetylcholine. Nicotine, caffeine and alcohol also interfere in a similar fashion by forcing a reduction of pressure on the LES and so consumption should also be decreased. One of the main planks of a diet plan to deal with GERD is to avoid foods that have this debilitating effect on the LES muscle.

A further important point concerning dietary habits to manage acid reflux is not to eat the last meal of the day less than three hours before going to bed, as food and dairy products in particular is a major factor in the production of stomach acid. Other changes include raising the head of the bed by 6 to 8 inches to prevent acid from reaching the esophagus.

A lot of acid reflux victims comment on the degradation of their symptoms when they consume too much spicy foods or coffee. Meals containing a lot of spice will often irritate the esophageal mucosa.

The first crucial step in a fully holistic all natural program is the food plan. However, even if it gives instant relief of GERD, it should be noted that a change in dietary habits is not a remedy per se, above all in cases of advanced acid reflux.

Has anyone told you? Your painful and distressing symptoms of gastro esophageal reflux disease can be eliminated forever without any conventional medicine or "over the counter" medication. The holistic approach (specific herbs and vitamin supplements while following a complete set of diet guidelines, eliminating toxins and using Candida control protocols) can cure GERD in a natural way and stop it from coming back, effectively and permanently.

Oral Yeast Infection: the FACTS about Oral Yeast Infection

by Linda Allen

Also known as thrush or oral candiasis, oral yeast infection is a subtype of a fungal infection that grows in the mucous areas of the mouth. When neglected, oral yeast infection can spread to the throat and the esophagus and be the author of more serious complications. Oral yeast infection is often a temporary condition in babies, but can indicate malfunctions of the adult autoimmune system.

Oral surfaces can predispose the multiplication of the yeast and disseminated infections. However, a mouth with yeasts does not necessarily get oral yeast infection. Candida species, predominantly Candida Albicans, are normal oral bacteria that are to be observed in 30% - 60% of healthy people. These bacteria live off their host without impact. Conditions opening the door for systemic infection include:

1. Drug therapies debilitating host defenses and modifying oral cavity. 2. Vulnerability orally to vectors of yeast infection, including food allergies, medication, mineral or vitamin deficiencies, mouth irritation, and so on. 3. Diseases sapping the strength of host defenses by their systemic nature. 4. Antibiotic treatments that change the equilibrium of the organisms in the intestines by killing beneficial gastrointestinal bacterial flora that typically hold Candida at bay. 5. Stress, anxiety or depression as psychological factors that contribute. 6. Modification of salivary patterns because of aspects such as Sjogren's syndrome and types of antidepressants, which then boost multiplication of Candida. 7. Local oral factors, such as using dentures and the challenge of hygiene that they bring. Problems include bad hygiene from porous dentures and lack of washing or sluicing from saliva that unable to fully circulate. It is for this reason that yeast infection median prevalence is at 85% for users of dentures with normal oral mucosa, compared to just 37% of users with their own natural teeth. 8. Alterations in physiological conditions such as getting old, being pregnant, infancy, insufficiency of iron, diet considerations, affliction of diabetes, hypothyroidism, hypoadrenalism etc.

Most commonly, the following oral yeast infection symptoms are:

1. Color contrast in the inner surface of the mouth where a red background combines with white, cream colored or yellow spots which simply bleed if scrubbed. 2. Extra tissue that it is impossible to wipe off 3. A tongue that is red with no bright spots, precedes peeling surfaces or patches on the surface of the tongue. 4. Angular Cheilitis or red cracks at the corner of the mouth.

Together with its visible symptoms, oral yeast infection can also manifest itself by a disagreeable burning sensation in the infected area.

Newborn babies are commonly impacted by oral yeast infection. Additional tests should be done for oral yeast infection that is suspected. The first signs are restlessness and irritability during feedings, as well as refusal to accept a pacifier.

Certain anti-fungal drugs can effectively resolve oral thrush, like:

1. Nystatin (sold as mycostatin, mycolog and nilstat): an antibiotic used for different subclasses of fungal infections. After 2 days of using this medicament, oral thrush is typically eliminated. Without toxicity and bacteria and virus tolerant, it can be taken orally three to fives times per day in tablet or liquid form. However, because of the multiple doses that are required, lower patient compliance may result.

2. Ketoconazole (sold as mycelex, monistat and nizoral): antifungal drug changing the cell wall of the fungus to destroy it.

3. Triazole antifungal agents, such as itraconazole and fluconazole. Fluconazole can be taken orally as a tablet or a liquid every day for a period of at least several weeks. Itraconazole is used as part of a continuous treatment typically lasting at least 3 months or until a laboratory test shows no further fungal infection. Despite oral and intravenous possibilities, poor absorption and various secondary effects (nausea, vomiting, fatigue, pain in the abdomen) are among the disadvantages of Itraconazole.

4. Amphotericin B (brand names: fungizone, adria and apothecon): a strong antibiotic for tackling fungal infections. As a polyene antimycotic drug, this is usually prescribed for in cases of severe Candiasis with hospitalization. It has toxic characteristics and may lead to multiple different side effects.

Although there are differences in usage, certain elements are common to all of these oral yeast medications. Firstly, medication therapy for oral yeast infection targets the external symptoms of yeast infection, like much other conventional medication, thus neglecting the internal reasons that bring on candida infection overgrowth. Secondly, alleviation brought by the medication is typically temporary, and all the more so for recurring oral yeast infection. Finally, long-term use of these drugs may cause secondary effects.

Other than prescribed medicaments, oral yeast infection can also be cured using herbal or homeopathic treatment, changes in diet, detox and alterations in lifestyle. The holistic and all-natural solution can address the internal cause of oral yeast infection and also its immediate symptoms. Symptoms are thus eliminated and candida infection is prevented from returning.

Symptoms of GERD: the Importance of Initial Diagnosis

by Jeff Martin

Few people are aware of the medical significance of GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) and the symptoms that they have. Decline in general well-being is the result for many people suffering from GERD. For inhabitants of developed countries, the problem is widespread. No less than 20% of all inhabitants in western countries suffer from some of the common GERD symptoms at least every seven days.

From different data available, some 70% of diagnostics based on the identification of common symptoms give the right answer. Because GERD can make patients suffer enormously and also result in serious complications, it is crucial to be able to pinpoint the symptoms, diagnose them and quickly organize a solution. Doctors and paraprofessionals are of the same opinion: a first diagnosis of GERD, often via a questionnaire on typical external signs of gastro esophageal reflux disease, is essential for effective and quick treatment of this ailment.

Heartburn and regurgitation are among the typical symptoms of GERD. It is the contents of the stomach and its acids, being thrown back up in the esophagus, that causes the distressing burning feeling associate to injury of the esophageal lining in the case of gastro esophageal reflux disease. Symptoms of GERD may also include: nose and sinus symptoms, chest pain (can be mistaken for cardiac-related pain), dry coughing, wheezing chronically, asthma, nausea, decay of tooth enamel, bad breath, and dysphagia (impression of a lump in the back of the throat). Acid reflux may also attack the ears (otitis media) and the vocal cords (laryngitis, hoarseness and cancer).

The ability to recognize those symptoms in evidence of gastro esophageal reflux disease is critical for regaining health and well being as well as preventing possible complications.

Symptoms of acid reflux are often an outer danger sign of internal general imbalance. Neglecting gastro esophageal reflux disease can result in major physical distress and may also cause severe health problems like cancer of the esophagus and pneumonia. Luckily, victims can identify the greater part of GERD symptoms before seeing a doctor. If a symptom (or several of them) occur regularly, the recommendation is to consult a gastrointestinal specialist for a full diagnosis.

Although a gastrointestinal endoscopist can give a professional initial diagnosis, classical medicine as a solution for gastro esophageal reflux has two important negative points:

1. Life long reliance on drugs can be the result because a daily dose is required to stop symptoms, but no action is taken on fixing the real causes. Medicaments that sufferers can obtain as prescriptions and over the counters only act on the outer disease symptoms, but acid reflux is a much deeper problem, being the result of a collection of different inner and outer aspects. 2. Some drugs such as PPIs and antacids also generate multiple undesirable side effects.

Holistic solution are a much more effective answer and work for the long term. Whatever your degree of GERD affliction is, tackling this condition by using a holistic program will ensure that the basic causes of your acid reflux problem are dealt with securely and with permanence, to significantly better your well being. The holistic program that targets the factors that are both internal and external and that trigger acid reflux, also resolves the underlying problem responsible for this condition.
